Disney Is Buying Marvel

The Walt Disney Company announced earlier this morning that it would be buying the comic book company Marvel for 4 billion dollars. When it comes to the films, Fox will still own the X-Men, Paramount will still have Iron Man and Sony will keep Spiderman until their deals expire. Disney has stated that this move will help them gain a broader male audience, since their recent successes have been catered mostly to young females, (Hannah Montana and the Princesses). Here's hoping that this move doesn't screw the fans over when it comes to the films. The last thing we need is a song and dance number coming from Captain America!

Whiplash Concept Art For Iron Man 2

Marvel.com recently posted the concept art of Whiplash, the villian in next years highly anticipated Iron Man 2, on their website. Apparantley, it's suppose to be him in his final stage. Even though I'm not that keen on the look, I'm positive that Jon Favreau will make it work well within the context of the film. Whiplash is being portrayed by Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler).

John Hughes 1950- 2009

I woke up this morning to the news that John Hughes passed away yesterday, August 6th, from a heart attack while in New York City. He was the director, producer and writer behind films like Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Home Alone, Curly Sue, and Some Kind of Wonderful, to name a few. Hughes was a director known for making films that explore the makeup of Americas youth. He just seemed to get it, which is why his films strike a chord even as you watch them today. They're still relevant, minus the 80's fashions. Rest in peace Mr. Hughes.
